Default Tunica casino area

Hi,

Thinking of going to Tunica in January (6th to the 10th) to play a few of the tournies. I have looked at a map of the casinos, and I am trying to decide if the casinos are all within walking distance from each other?

For example, the tournies are going to be held at the Horseshoe and others at the Grand Casino. If I stayed at Ballys or Fitzgeralds, is it a 5 minute walk or a 15 minute walk?

Secondly, it appears I will fly into Memphis. Are there free shuttles to the hotels from the airport?

Thanks for any info,
Ken

Some casinos are within walking distance but most are not. GOld Strike & the Horseshoe are an easy walk but the Grand is a few miles.

Thanks. I did some searching on yahoo and I did find that ballys is less the 1/2 mile from the Horseshoe but nearly 2 miles to the Grand.

Any info about the shuttle would still be appreciated.

I always drive down so I never paid any attention to the shuttles. They are there but I am clueless.

What I know is that the Grand is the most isolated of the Casinos. Try to stay elsewhere for easier access to Horsehoe etc.

Goldstrike and Sheraton are right next door and both have very nice rooms. Goldstrike will also (unlike some) cut some room rates for poker players. Last time I was there they were running a lot of smaller tourneys.

There is a shuttle that runs between all of them but (especially in the wee hours) takes a considerable ammount of time to make the loop.

Ken-

I like to stay at the Goldstrike or Horseshoe, because they are so close together, (if you go out the Goldstrike's side door, walk down a covered walkway and across a service road you are at the Horseshoe,~50 yards if that)and have great cardrooms. I believe there are shuttles that run between the casinos during certain hours of the day, so it is easy to get to other places no matter where you stay.

As far as I know there are no free shuttles to the casinos from the airport. I usually book a ride through Unique Travel (you can find the phone number on the Memphis Airport website) on one of their shuttles. I can't remember the rates, but it was cheaper than a cab which I remember is expensive.

Also if you stay at the Goldstrike or Horseshoe and plan to play poker make your reservation through the cardroom...they offer great rates for poker players.

Hope this helps!

Both the goldstrike and horseshoe are unavailable the weekend I am going.

Ballys is $30 for Thursday/Sunday and $85 for Friday/Saturday so this appears to be the place.

Actually, if you don't mind walking through the woods (and mud), it's even closer than that. If you try to walk down the street, you'll probably get killed since I don't think there's a sidewalk and everyone is going about 200 MPH on that road.

Horseshoe, Goldstrike, and the Sheraton (which doesn't have a poker room, but does have a hotel) are all located in one group, and walking between them is no problem. It's LITERALLY five feet from Goldstrike to Horseshoe. OK, maybe ten. There's just a driveway seperating the two. Bally's is seperated from that group by a small levy. I haven't walked over that, but I guess you could do it. The area will be cold and muddy in January, though. I would avoid Bally's anyway, it's a real dump. If it's the only place with rooms, fine, but DO NOT eat at the buffet there.

Fitzgeralds and Grand are both isolated. You can't realistically walk to anywhere from either of them.

Harrah's, Hollywood, and Sam's Town are all within walking distance of each other, but I haven't been down to that part of Tunica in several years.

That is fine but you will want to line up a shuttle or something to get to the 'shoe and gold strike. You REALLY won't want to make that walk....trust me on this. There are several cab companies that service that area as well... I'd get the numbers of a couple (when you check in) and call around for rates/availability. Be warned that Ballys is really a shithole....

25c Craps attracts a shady type of clientele.... be careful.
