I know I'm not very good at either ping pong or pool, but I destroyed everyone I ever played at Goldeneye.

I think that when someone says they are good at ping pong, it is usually a pretty good sign that they might be good at ping-pong but aren't so good at table tennis. They'll place their off hand on the table for slams. Their serves will be illegal for at least two different reasons. If you show em some backspin, they'll drive it right into the net.

Personally, I was good enough to win intramural competition fairly easily at a small liberal arts college, but get my ass handed to me when I played in the club at the bigger state school. People who knew what they were doing made me look like a no-talent assclown.

You can beat a better pool player every once in a while. You aren't going to beat a better table tennis player very often.

I could beat most good ping pong players without bringing my paddle above the table for this reason.

If you play ping pong/table tennis with anyone who's remotely serious about the game, it is not pretty.

A game where there is the greatest gulf from "beginner/kitchen table" to "good player" to "great player" is chess. There is almost no chance of anyone from beginner beating good or good beating great. And the worst is that when you are good, and you play a great player, you know you're going to lose, and you don't understand how you lost when it's over. It's *really* frustrating.

i have played private homegames with the repeat world champion (in singles and doubles) from a few years ago. He was amazing to watch. He travelled around the world looking for games. It finally got to the point where he coudln't find anyone to gamble with him anywhere. It was ridiculous.
