Default iPod problem

My computer crashed, it's working fine now but I don't have my iPod software. Hopefully it's back home, but that won't really help me right now obviously. Is there anyway of easily and legally obtaining a copy of this software given that I have just about no proof of ownership besides my iPod's serial no?

I'm pretty sure I need to have iPod on my computer to actually use iTunes. Right now my computer isn't recongizing my iPod. I could be wrong about this though.

iTunes works as a stand alone mp3 player. It should recognize your iPod.

Er.. assuming the connections are fine, and it's charged.. your computer should recognize it as a hard drive regardless... but to acces the music i think you'll need Itunes, and that definitely will recognize the ipod, assuming the connections are good.

Try booting your ipod into disk mode.

for 4th gen, hold down menu & select for 10 seconds till it reboots. When the apple logo comes up, hold down FF and Rewind.

You can google for this info too. It sometimes help ipod mount to computer.

It's possible that just reseting it will help too.

Also, you can get the ipod updater from apple.com. This may recognize the ipod.

Have you restarted your computer yet? That should be step #1.

I had this happen to me when I first got my ipod. I started to put songs on it the second or third day I had it and I couldn't find the software for it. I just plugged it into my computer and an ipod updater thing popped up and the software came on my computer.
