I’m using the word “victim” only to differentiate that these clowns were killed when they did not expect to die. Overall they knew what they were doing and they got their just desserts – if only the bombs had gone off in the car so they were the only ones killed.

Well there was a drill going on at the exact same time/place. What if they thought they were part of a terrorism prevention drill and were just patriotic Britains?

That's a stretch.

A bit off topic, but today, London Mayor Ken Livingstone blasted Western (and particularly American) foreign policy.

Reuters:

"You've just had 80 years of Western intervention into predominantly Arab lands because of a Western need for oil. We've propped up unsavory governments, we've overthrown ones that we didn't consider sympathetic," Livingstone said.

"I think the particular problem we have at the moment is that in the 1980s ... the Americans recruited and trained Osama bin Laden, taught him how to kill, to make bombs, and set him off to kill the Russians to drive them out of Afghanistan.

"They didn't give any thought to the fact that once he'd done that, he might turn on his creators," he told BBC radio.

Is he nuts, or does he speak the truth?

Both.

Wars create strange alliances - they always have. To accuse the US of teaching Arabs to drill oil, and engaging in commerce with them is nuts.

So you're 100% sure they knew they were going to die?

That's the main question posed by this thread. Did they? Or were they duped?

Thanks for putting us back on track

I think the evidence, including the fact of a drill going on at the same time/place with exact same scenario as the real bombings, strongly indicates that these people were not suicide bombers and may not even have been conspirators.

Hmmm.

Maybe they had been mules for drugs, but it was decided that they knew too much? So this was their last "delivery" (unbeknownst to them).

al-Qaeda is involved with the opium trade, you know.

Fyi, according to Tony Blair in a news conference this week, al-Qaeda is not an organization, it is a mindset. And Mr. Blair has never been wrong, AFAIK.

We need to get him to start posting here. Especially in the religious debates.
