Re: Am I getting soft or what?
[ QUOTE ]
I like the flop three-bet b/c if he's semi-bluffing the hearts I charge the max. [/ QUOTE ] If he has Hearts, then isn't raising the Turn if a non-Heart hits charging him more? Instead of getting in one extra small bet when you're a 2:1 favorite, you get in one extra big bet when you're a 4:1 favorite. -Brian |

Re: Am I getting soft or what?
Raise the turn and put him to the test, if he reraises you, call him down.

Re: Am I getting soft or what?
I would like to expand my answer: I think it is correct to play this hand agrressively. You have an overpair and a backdoor nut flush draw on the flop. Yeah there are 2 queens there, but I think it is a good assumption that your opponent does not have a queen. The normal play if your opponent had a queen on this flop would be for him to bet out and hope he is raised so that he could reraise to charge flush draws or maybe to call flop and then checkraise turn. A flop checkraise would be more likely to come from someone who has a pair, but not the queen. The combination of your strong hand and the opponents choice of plays, would lead me to believe that the most profitable line would be an agressive one. I would slow down only if I got 3bet on the turn... and then I would checkcall the rest of the way. I do not think this is the right time to play passivley.

Hi ElSapo,
Neither do I. That's why I'd meekly call down against an unknown. |

Re: Am I getting soft or what?
I think you guys who are calling down the turn threebet are giving away too many chips. There are almost no player who will threebet you here without having you beat badly.

Opponent had 93o for...well...nothing at all on the flop. Turns out this guy was a big time bluffer who almost always made a stab at the pot when the action was 2 or 3 way and sometimes even 7 way.

Re: Am I getting soft or what?
There is usually nothing wrong with checking and calling if you're either way ahead or way behind. Obviously the decision hinges on whether or not your man will pay you off with a pocket underpair in this situation; if he will, then you'd be more inclined to three bet the flop or toss in a raise at some point later on. But in Party games, which often degenerate into a bluff-o-rama, the chances that your man has absolutely nothing here are probably great enough to allow you to consider inducing a bluff on all three streets.

Re: Am I getting soft or what?
Huh?
Our hero didn't raise on the turn, so how could he have been threebet? -Michael |
