Default Did I make the right call here?

8 players left in 20 person tourney. I have about 9000 which - due to a fast structure - is a bit above average. Blinds are 300/500 and I've been playing tight.

I raise in MP to 1,500 with 85o - trying to mix it up. SB goes all-in with 4K straight. So, with my bet (1500) his all-in (4000) and the BB (500) there's 6000 in the pot and I have to call 2500 wo win the pot of 6000.

My read: He's a pretty solid player, but he's short-stacked. I think 10% of the time he's going to have an overpair (99 or better), 5% of the time he'll have an over and a card between mine (like A6) and 85% of the time he's going to have 2 overs.

If I put him on 2 overs, aren't I getting the correct odds to call? Calling 2,500 to win 6,000 is 2.4-1, right?

You are down about 2-1 against 2 overs and 5-1 against an over pair. If villain has 2 overs 85% and an over pair 15%, it is about 2.25-1, so you are getting odds to call. I suspect the true odds are fairly close to the 2.4-1 pot odds.

Therefore, your decision should br based more on whether you want to gamble and whether you want toshow you raised with 85o.

Did you raise with 85o because you thought you had a good chence to steal the blinds? I don't understand raising in this situation with junk to mix it up.

This was from a while ago, but the players in the game I play in are still talking about this hand and how "lucky" I got and what a "terrible call" it was, so I'd like some more opinions.

And, to answer your question, I did think there was a strong chance of stealing the blinds due to my tight image. With blinds of 250/500, any steal helps out your stack.

Easy call. 2.4:1 => that you have to be 29.5% in the hand to call. Even against a tight range you are 30% and more if the range loosens up.

Of course you are a donkey for raising 85o from MP in the first place. If you had opened for more it would be even a better call.

Getting a good price and having extra chips its an easy call for me. I don't mind showing trash once in a while. It depends on ytoyur style but you might now get someone to come over the top of you with a weak ace or whatever and you will hold a big hand. Easy call for me. RESULTS?
