I have had good results going to an upscalish store like nordstroms to find a better quality salesman, explain my situation and budget, and ask them for suggestions.

Even if you don't like their selections it may give you some ideas or expose you to styles, combinations and colors that you wouldn't have considered on your own.

How do you wear this flannel? Like 1991 grunge or just buttoned up?

Don't worry about it Chris Cornell. Every 20-30 years styles come back around. You will be able to say you were one of the originals in 2020.
