Default Odds Question.

I was playing in a home game yesterday and we played a few hands of Omaha hi.

One of the players that thinks he knows a lot about poker states:

"I folded that flush draw because the odds are cut in half of catching your flush in omaha because so many cards are being used."

I replied with something like:

"If it's a 10 handed game of holdem or a 4 handed game of holdem the odds of catching a flush are just the same, so why would it be any different in a game of omaha, you just go be the unseen cards?"

Are the odds different in omaha than from holdem?

Actually, the odds of making a flush draw are higher than in Texas holdem since you know the values of 7 cards instead of 5, but only slightly higher. Also, if you hold 3 or 4 flushing cards in your hand instead of 2, your odds of making the flush draw go down.

There's a chance your flush draw is totally dead since all cards of that suit could be in play, but you don't consider cards that you cannot see without extraordinary information. No, your friend is full of [censored].

Your friend is a fool. Playing with him is +EV.

Sometimes in Omaha however, you can figure out how many of the suit are in people's hands by reading your opponents and adjust your odds accordingly.

Draw heavy board, big stacks, 10 handed game. Player A bets the pot on the turn, Player B calls. The river is the proverbial deuce of spades. Player A bets the pot.

Player B mucks and says, "[censored]! How could I miss I had 20 outs!"
Player A points to the stub and says, "Son, there weren't but 6 cards left in there."
