You don't protect yourself by check-calling down with queen-high. You protect yourself by making a play at the pot. Betting the turn is a good option...

If your opponent will raise any two, then I'd for sure defend my blind with Q4o. What I would NOT do is check-call on all three postflop streets with queen-high.
