It's YOUR game. Don't invite the player back if you think he's going to be a problem.

"I will probably end up just telling the one guy if he can't watch himself then not to worry about coming back. He was trying to be an ass and I'm not sure why"

Because he IS an ass, of course. Ask him to restrain himself out of consideration. If he won't, kick his ass to the curb.

(BTW, that's 10 chips back to you...)

"People are going to be offended. It's part of life. If you want to have friends you won't make a big deal out of stuff like this. It will make your life a lot easier if you just choose not to. Sure, let them know that you don't like it, but if they are inconsiderate or just think you're being unreasonable, I think it's time to let this one go."

So, people come over to your house. You ask for a certain level of courtesy around a specific area (he's talking about a specific phrase/subject, remember) and they decide "screw you, I'll do what I want"
And it's YOUR problem? Bad advice.

"If it really offends you that much that you can't stand to be around them, then don't be around them. Good luck finding other people just like you that don't find anything annoying about you.
I don't mean to come across as an ass;" too late

What will all the players husbands do while their wives are playing poker with you?

just freaking vote! smart-ass!

For someone that is against cursing I find it strange that your reply to someone that doesn't agree with you is “just freaking vote! smart-ass”

So let me understand your rules. No swearing but saying things like GD, Freaking, “HE (double hockey sticks)”, shoot, mother pucker, etc. Would be OK?

Are you running a poker game or a kindergarten? I think an appropriate penalty for anyone that swears would be to make them hang out with you for a couple of days.

Doesn’t anyone else have chips and a poker table where you live?

Don't be obtuse; I think you see my point.

I'm being sincere in that the OP's life will be easier if he doesn't sweat the small stuff.

My friends do annoying things sometimes, but they're still great friends.

On the topic of penalties (without comment on what actions should deserve a penalty), I don't think a time penalty is very good (if it is a bad player it may actually help).

I think a chip penalty is better, but I don't see why the chips should go into the next pot (changing the structure of the game for just that one hand and giving the penalized player a chance to win the chips back right away).

If I were making the rules, the penalized player would be required to give up some chips (the ammont of the small blind seems good to me), and those chips would just be taken out of play. Why is this never done?

Just have a hand gun ready at all times and just wound him a little for each slip up.

I feel for you man, that took some guts to post something like that on here. I have the same problem. That offends me as well and i dont know how to handle it. I have a hard time even asking them to cool it. If anyone needs to grow up it is him. If you cant play without taking the lords name in vain than you shouldnt be playing. Im sure ill get ripped for this too.

This is dumb.

You don't like the lords name taken in vain. fine. it's your house.

next time he does it, stand up, say 'i've told you before, and i'm going to tell you one more time. do not take the lords name in vain in my house. by continuing to do so, you are disrespecting me and my beliefs. if you do so again, i will ask you to leave, and not return. ok?'

shake hands, sit down, and play poker.

like i told the dude who wondered if it was rude not to let people smoke in his house because they were playing poker there, just because you like to jerk off doesn't mean you can cum on my carpet.
