white water rafting in Maine.
The West Branch of the Penobscot is the best of the rivers. Though there is an age limit...might be 15. In which case the Kennebec is great.

Three day schooner out of Camden wouldn't suck either.

Deep sea fishing trip?

I think this is a great idea. I don't know many kids that wouldn't like this.

How about a trip to NYC? Prices are fairly reasonable in the summer, there is plenty to see and do, and you can do as much or as little walking as you like around Manhatten.

as far as a bonding type activity backpacking is great. I'm taking my daughters this summer for the 1st time. We went to the west coast of vancouver island salman fishing and exploring a couple summers ago and they had a great time with that as well. with my oldest daughter any of the amuzement parks like six flags is a sure thing. with my 13 yo yellowstone park is her fav.

Deep sea fishing is a great idea, but it's really only good for one or possibly two days at best.

Pick a location that offers a vareity of options. Deep sea fishing one day, rollercoasters another day, rafting/paddling some other day, hiking, etc...

Any possibility that one of his friends can tag along or is this strictly a father-son thing?

edit: i see you want it to be just the two of you.
