The games as run are illegal. It is legal to have the poker games if they dont' make any money. TYpically what they do is they wrote down half of what is dropped and give that to the charity and keep the other half off the book to pay people. They typically snatch double or triple rake from each pot so the shortfall doesn't show up on the books (and so they make more moeny).

Victor while its true that the cops will only hassle the organizers, if they come in and "sting" the joint, don't they confiscate all chips that are on the table, and hence, all the players' money as well?

They were doing that a year ago. Are most of the charity games in Cleveland "safe" now?
