Default Just plain nastiness

B+M 2-4 game last wednesday. I am sitting at $440, villian has me covered. I look down at 2 red Kings. Raise to $15 in middle position. 2 callers

Flop 9 K 9 (two spades)

Hero checks
Villian bets $20
Hero Calls

Turn: 5 spades

Hero checks
Villian bets $40
Hero Raises to $120
Villian calls

River bricked, 6 I think

Villian goes all in
Hero Calls all in

He is holding 99.

Now this isn't a bad beat story, I wanted to ask everyone if I should of slowed down at any point in this hand? Can you ever put someone on quads? I know in SS doyle says to never be fearful of quads.

Is this just a hand where I have to grab my ankles and take it with a smile?

You got the perfect flop, and got hosed. That's poker. If you ever get good enough that you can read someone for exactly 99 in the pocket for calling a standard raise, playing the way he did WITH a flush draw on the board, please let me know, and I will never sit down at a table with you.

BTW, I think by the time you might have realized he had quads (i.e. calling your turn bet or going all-in), can you actually fold at this point???

Maybe a better question is... what range of hands does someone bet the way he did? Hmmm, that makes it a little tougher. You don't play any underpair that way... the board pairing sure makes it tough to play like he did without 99. MAYBE AA plays the way he did, but usually that turn raise would make AA think pretty hard. Pretty much the only hand I could see playing the way he did besides 99 is something like 89 or 9T (I think he's safe in assuming you don't have a flush, since the Ks is out). Maybe AQs... but even that seems like a bad play.

Ouch... I dunno. You gotta be really disciplined to lay down your hand in that situation.

Don't make the 2nd nuts vs the nuts.

That is the only advice I can give you.

Bet the flop. Check/raise the turn all-in. The money got in there much too slow.

Yeah really surprised by the check on the flop. Seems suspicious as hell. If I was your opponent, and hadn't flopped quads, I would have folded pretty much anything on the turn (except K9 of course).

Well let me say that this guy had been showing down top pair bad kicker in huge pots. He was calling down on questionable draws and hitting also. Everyone there knew him as a bad limit player so in this hand I couldn't get my money in fast enough. He was the picture child for Loose Aggressive and a joy to have at the table. Atleast for everyone else...

TY for the replies.
