Default Going to Vegas next week: where to play LLHE?

Hi everyone!
I'm heading out to vegas this coming week. Any recommendations on where to play some low limit hold em? I'm just a newbie, been playing online for a few months, never ever played in a cardroom and am a bit intimidated (I'm a girl). Who's got the easiest competition? And who has the lowest limits? And any tips for a b & m newbie?

Thanks!!

Allvegaspoker.com will have the info you are looking for. Basically, everyone spreads low limits 2/4, 3/6, 4/8 and 1/2 NL .

Harrah's on the strip for decent games and the Horseshoe downtown for all you can eat fish.

You being a girl shouldnt play any part on whether you should feel intimidated at a limit holdem table. Some of the top pros in LA and Vegas in LHE games are women (probably 2/3rds asian women at that).

I'd start at the Luxor for the 2/4 limit holdem. nice, small unintimidating card room. dealers there are used to newbies and you usually will not be the only newbie at table. Move next door to the Mandalay Bay for the 4/8 limit games once you get comfortable. I have played at both for many hours (as much as 13 hours in one day) and even when I was just starting I would buy in for 25 times big bet and never ever had to rebuy. I go to vegas every three months to play poker, have played in 16 different card rooms in vegas, find those two places best for starting out in low limit without running into a bunch of loose canons that might draw out on you often or pros that might outplay you.

The competition at all the cardrooms is basically the same.

Since you're nervous playing for the fist time, I strongly reccomend the Monte Carlo (2-4 or 4-8). They have an excellent staff that will help you feel comfortable.

Just remember that there are no "pros" at the levels you are playing, 99.9% of the players suck. There will be quite a few locals who talk a good game, but they usually suck - just not as bad as the tourists. Have fun, nothing to be intimidated about! In fact you have an advantage - 2+2 & your a girl (card room guys get all wierd around women, its as if they have never seen a woman before at times)

LOL! I'm glad you pointed this out. I thought I was the only person who thought that! Once in awhile my girlfriend will sit in on one of my B&M poker sessions, which I can handle (in moderation).

It's so funny to see how other players react to her. I would say that they're generally less likely to put her on a bluff. If she raises, a higher % of people will lay it down than will against your average male low limit player.. she really uses this to her advantage.

I also actually think being a woman may be an asset at a poker table filled with men. Men are such idiots when there is a lady at the table, especially poker dweebs. I watched a guy (Made me laugh pretty hard actually) on Wednesday night in the IP who was trying so hard to put the moves on this cute little blond gal sitting next to him that he just basically gave his money away. Most of it was to her when it would end up being the two of them left in a hand and he would just fold his hand on the river, without even being bet. She finally asked why he was doing it and his reply was something like, "Well, Baby, I know you had me beat. I can read you really well". She would smile and bat her eyes at hims and start stacking chips. He finally had to leave the table when he had burned through his pile of chips and his buddies wanted to go down and do some "real" gambling in the casino. I thought he was going to cry when he couldn't convince her to join them. She stayed and I leaned over to her after he left (she was sitting to my left) and asked her if she had fun taking Mr. Gold Jewelery's money. She just kind of laughed and said "Why, yes that was kind of fun". She played well and knew what she was doing and we laughed about it a couple of time after that too. Way too funny!!!

I'd also vouch for the Monte Carlo, I went there after having only paid a couple times on the internet, without any b&m experience so I was a bit nervous about all the protocol and rules. But their staff and dealers were all really friendly and accomodating, you should have no problem playing a comfortable 2/4 game at least.
