BB calls. Should I be playing these marginal hands in late position as blinds increase? Dealt 77 in MP2. UTG raises to 1600 I raise AI 6500. SB calls with Q10. UTG calls. Flop Q 10 4...9...4..I bust in 335th place Any comments or suggestions are appreciated. I know I donked a few plays in the rebuy period but felt that I really was on a bad run during the second hour. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks. Nick |

Re: Riptide 5K Complete Tourney Summary
1- looks fine
2- not with any two cards. why wait to level to rebuy though? 3- Dealt A2o UTG+1- ick! too early a position for that hand (if ever); JT- good fold. no don't take chances with connectors when there's a 10xBB bet 4- A4s. look out for those baby aces. you're going to be dominated too often when you hit your ace and you're going to lose a lot of chips. leak city. case in point- and I'm commenting as I go so I didn't see this coming- A5o losing to Ak. 7- i like to play tight at this stage as well. people who aren't used to rebuys can't put on the brakes; a lot of people go out. your M is very high. pick your spots. The rest of it is fine- if you can't steal you can't steal. you pushed with a pushable hand when you had to push. |

Re: Riptide 5K Complete Tourney Summary
I hate how Paradise Poker gives players a timebank that can last more than 1/10 of the level length. The blinds go up so goddamn fast relative to the amount of hands played compared to anywhere else.
I busted out in the 100s again when my JJ lost to K4o and QTs 3-way. I called the two all ins and lost to a Q on the river. some things I've learned about the riptide: go for the stack double or triple early, sit on your chips for a while, doubling through anxious rebuyers, hope you get a monster right before the break and take some more anxious rebuyer chips.. You're just going to find yourself in any hand you're involved in either going all-in, or calling an all in for a serious amount of your chips. On the bright side, you can be assured that many of these all-ins are with junky hands, as weak as an unsuited King high. and remember, if you think you have an opportunity, TAKE IT. The blinds go up VERY fast relative to the hands, like I said. I might have considered folding the JJ to the two all ins if it wasn't like that, but I knew that desperation caused by the blinds (for both the players who went all in, and mostly ME) forced me to call for my best shot at making high money. I hope my (edit: newbie) wisdom brings much happiness and 90th place to many, for a whopping profit of .50. |

Re: Riptide 5K Complete Tourney Summary
Level 1 87o: I'm probably checking the flop to induce a bluff, than reraising big time. If no one takes a stab at the flop I'm going aggro on the turn if it's non-scary.
AQs: At a full 9handed table, I muck AQ UTG. Level 4 A4s: Stinky!! A4 is only playable from LP against a maximum of 3 players IMO. Absoloutely no way you should be contesting this pot in any way shape or form. AA: I love this!! You got your donkeys money in the middle very skillfully. Level 10 A5s: Should you or should you not be playing these hands in these situations is really read dependant. You should lean towards trying not to let people bully you off your hands, but at the same time be aware of who's not been in there ramming and jamming every third pot. I wouldn't worry about not playing hands through an entire level. Once in a blue moon I go as long as 25 minutes at a time without playing a pot if the blinds are low and my opponents are idiots. In general I think our styles are pretty much similar, although I think you need to work on not overvaluing your weaker aces. Oh, and as for rebuy-specific strat, I can't help you there. I avoid rebuy tourneys like a festering plague. When I knock someone out I want them to stay out. |
