Re: Bikes in Las Vegas
1. Biking in Vegas is surprisingly pleasant. Lots of broad streets with wide shoulders, but bike lanes seem to be near schools. Drivers are very courteous (off the Strip). Never had one make a right turn on red if I was at the corner. Had to wave them through. In fact, they may have been the most bike-friendly drivers I've come across, but I can't explain why since I saw so few bikers.
2. I agree that the Strip is bad news unless you have a death wish or seek adrenalin highs. The Strip does have bicycle cops who are interesting to talk to if you like night time urban cycling. 3. There's a PDF map of bikeable LV streets on the web. Very useful. If you can't find it, PM me and I'll see if I can locate it. 4. Orleans has a bike rack a few feet from the poker room. One of the few reasons to play there. 5. Lots of bike shops have signs saying that they rent bikes, but I have no experience renting. |

I dont' knwo if this was an urban legend or not, but the general belief when I lived in Vegas was the fine for speeding in a school zone was $100 per 1 mph over the limit. |

Re: Bikes in Las Vegas
Thanx again for the input.
I have plenty of commiserations to those who have either been knocked off their bikes or who have had them stolen. I would of thought that there would of been employees of casino who would have preferred this mode of transport when traffic is saturated. I haven't been to Vega$ since Thanksgiving 1996, so I'm sure that the city and the environs has exploded in the time since. The monorail wasn't built then so that might be something to try as well. BTW - I find it ironic that today my rusty, female-style beach cruiser was stolen on the Broadwalk in AC. The lock, a combination style by Bell was not good enough for the desperados at this time of the year. I have a feeling that the people involved with this are those are are pushing the rolling cabs on the Boardwalk, because I saw 2 lofted on the top as they were pushing their passengers while I was cursing under my breathe. Luckily, the bike was not worth much in costs - Unfortunately replacing it, is an infringement on my time and pleasure. |

Re: Bikes in Las Vegas
Just to let those interested...
Arrived in LV on Saturday. Bought a bike that I wanted at the BroadAcres Flea Market on Sunday morning. Travelled on the Cat#113 North Las Vegas Blvd. Felt I was in Mexico - not hAmerika! Bike paid for later in $4-8 game @ Binions. Having a wonderful time riding around Downtown LV. Later I'll head for the strip! Post later |
