Slots, my dirty little secret
The last few trips to the casino I've been wasting some time playing slots, and I have to say, I'm getting in to it. $1 Wheel Of Fortune is my drug of choice. I've hit a couple of small jackpots (1500+2000) and I usually make a good return on my money playing. I don't see slots discussed much here.. Is it as mindless and purely luck based as it seems? Sure, slots are great...First and only time I've ever played them was when I was 17 on a cruise w/ my family. Just got done learning craps from my dad and saw my mom playing nickle slots. Borrowed 10 nickels to bet the max and won $165 on my first pull. Haven't played them since

The house advantage is hard to figure out, but it is often very high, over 5%, and you are expected to play about 600 rounds per hour. So, even with the jackpot, you expect to lose over 30 units per hour. See the Wizard of Odds.

Don't let the bonus wheel on the Wheel of Fortune slot fool you. They make it look like you have the same chance of hitting 25 as you do hitting 2500, but that's not the case. Remember that you're not actually spinning the wheel -- you're triggering a random number in a computer that is processed and converted into a dollar amount. Only after that's all done does the whell spin around before landing on the predetermined amount.
The amount is random, but it's weighted towards the lower payouts. If you want to check this yourself, find a bank of Wheel of Fortune machines and look at the bonus amount each machine paid out to the last player. You'll see a lot more 25s and 40s than 1000s and 2000s.

Oh, I know the wheel is just for show. I also laugh everytime I see other people playing and get so excited when it looks like it will stop on 1000 only to go one extra for only 25. (I'll let you in on a secret.. It /always/ looks like its gonna hit 1000 [img]/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img]). That being said, I have actually hit the 1000 in the past.

slots are my favroite form of -EV gambling, and i've actually found a way to turn them into a +EV passtime...
when i come home drunk and feel like playing some poker, instead of sitting down at my usual 3/6 tables, i drop $25 into an online casino and play the slots till i bust. this usually takes about an hour, scratches the gambling itch, and i'm sure it's saved me hundreds in potential poker losses. I have one casino bonus that i'm slowly clearing on slots... i hit a jackpot on 'reel strike' the other night for $400- that MIGHT be enough to get me through the WR. (it was a casino that i deposited and claimed the bonus at before i realized that it's 60x for BJ, but only 10x for slots. ho-hum.) ...and i just plain 'ol LIKE slots. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] I usually drop a twenty in the casinos before or after i play poker.

I think the icrogaming sites have the best games, and there are sveral that offer good bonuses that can only be unlocked with slots play- the belle rock group in particular. I think they're dead now, but they used to offer a 'buy 50 get +200' bonus that you could play FOREVER on pretty cheaply.

i fiend the action of slots... I do all the free $10 and $15 i can find online to play slots, and i love to play at barona every once in a while, their payouts are way high
