Re: 10 Week Challenge : Beginnings
Everybody seems to say that legislation will move to make online gaming illegal. Given that the recent trends have all been towards making B&M gambling legal in more locations, don't you think that online might follow? (I don't claim to know anything, just wondering)

(I don't claim to know anything, just wondering) [/ QUOTE ] It probably won't move that way, as there's no way to tax off-shore casinos. Now, politicians could move toward legalizing online gambling, so some of these sites could be based in the US, and taxable. But of course that doesn't make sense for the sites, and in general, legalizing gambling is something that doesn't poll well for politicians when it comes to focus groups. Despite the poker boom, most people still don't make the distinction between poker and other forms of gambling, and look at it in a negative light. BDids, keep an eye on the Legislature here in a couple of months, especially if I-892 passes. Problem gambling funding is going to be a big issue. Sorry for the hijack GoT. Maybe time for your first hands update? |

Re: 10 Week Challenge : Beginnings
[ QUOTE ]
Guy, Your challenge is interesting, but there is one aspect I think needs greater emphasis than all others, and that is budgeting. You are young and the poker boom will not last. Live as if you are earning $30K/year and bank every other dollar. Choose something relatively safe and long-term to invest in. Keep playing, keep putting money into your investments. When the boom goes bust (six months? a year? two years?) you'll be glad you saved up. A job may be hard to find, and some small part of your $$ can be used to start a business or go back to school. Print this out and store it away somewhere. 10 years from now, you will call me up and either thank me for the advice, or tell me you wish you'd listened. [/ QUOTE ] This is simply great advice. GoT... you're a much better poker player than I, but if you're having a hard time motivating yourself to earn $552/hour, you're a freaking idiot. Work hard now, relax later. |

552/hr is based on a tiny sample

552/hr is based on a tiny sample [/ QUOTE ] Okay, say it's only $100/hr. You still couldn't pry my hands off the keyboard if I was making that much. I'd work 20 hours a day until that sh*t dried up. |

While things may or may not turn out this way, it would be very easy for online poker to quickly reach a state where someone of GoT's skill level would have to work hard to make >$100/hr. [/ QUOTE ] That's crazy talk. We're all going to make hundreds of dollars an hour playing online poker for the rest of our lives, end of story. |

While I don't have the motivation problems of guy on tilt, I definately still want to do NORMAL things in life and not sit on my computer all day, even though i'm giving up hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Life is too short to just think about money. |

Re: 10 Week Challenge : Beginnings
It is inconceivable to me that online poker will ever dry up to the point where GoT's hourly rate is anything less than $150/hr. And I would be shocked if it ever fell below $225/ hr. How much does he make now an hour? |
