Default WSOP circuit Tunica ad in the newspaper

Well...it's in the Memphis Flyer anyway (which is the local version of the Village Voice...or the free weekly more-liberal-than-the-regular-paper type rag).

Big full-color ad covering about 1/3 of the page.
Picture of Raymer, Harmon, Devilfish and Doyle.
"RIDE THIS RIVER TO VEGAS" it says.

I guess they are trying to get whatever area, local-bar type players (as well as Tunica regulars) to take a shot at some of the $300 or $500 prelim events.

Also includes the whole schedule (satellites start Aug 10, main-event is 8/22-8/25).

I guess this is usually the ad-space where the Grand Casino would promote "Loose $1 slots...REALLY!" or whatever has-been acts are perforing there in the near future.

I am guessing that they are probably advertising in the commercial-appeal newspaper as well but I haven't really been looking for it yet.

Also saw a TV story on Channel 3 a few days ago along the lines of "One of the biggest poker events in the world is coming to Tunica." (or something like that).
Strangely, I think the news-story mentioned the January WSOP-circuit event...as opposed to the August-WSOP event which is obviously just a few weeks away.

Newsroom likely was just reading whatever press-release the Grand Casino sent to them.

News anchors and weatherman bantered about the popularity of poker and how amazing it is that some of these players are good enough to make their living just travelling around the country playing poker...etc etc.

Anyway - I found it kind of interesting that they are publicizing the upcoming event as much as they are in apparent efforts to try to get more players. I have never really seen poker events promoted in the area media quite like this.
Although there was a big spread and 4-part series as well (I believe) about poker in the Commercial-Appeal during the WPO this past January including 'what players to look for' at the main-event (Doyle, Jesus, Hellmuth, Greenstein, Harmon were all mentioned as I recall).

But that was when the event was in full-swing.
These are ads and publicity for the event 3 weeks or so before it even starts.

Default Re: WSOP circuit Tunica ad in the newspaper

I am kinda pissed I can't go for the smaller events. I am not going till the next weekend when the big buy in's are going on and I am not shelling out a few grand for a tourney.

I might go over to the Grand see whats going on, but it might be entertaining for the week to see any big games going on. Probably have to wait forever at a table...Hollywood might even get some action that week.
