Re: Pocket eights in a raised pot
you could have checked the river and hoped to get a free showdown. the button could easily be calling down with a pocket pair lower than kings. also, if anyone has a king and you check, they are unlikely to bet it with that board. i think its pretty close between betting and checking here.

Re: Pocket eights in a raised pot
I think betting the river is still a good play, you could fold out somebody with a higher pocket pair. Although with a king on the board, it's very likely somebody has a king with that many people to the flop.

Re: Pocket eights in a raised pot
From my experience, these situations are almost 50/50 win/lose. If lose, it's to a K from a passive player. Anyways, I'm not questioning the flop & turn play. I'm almost certain that those were correct. But I think I should have checked the river and taken the free showdown (or call one back to me).
By the way, I lost to a K. |

Re: Pocket eights in a raised pot
Are you factoring in the size of the pot in your decision? The pot is 11 SB to the flop. If it's 4 SB, I probably bail. The fact that 11 SB is in the pot already is huge. Play aggressively and maximize your chance of winning if you're ahead. If you're behind, you lose a few more bets, but you win with your aggressive play often enough that it's profitable. Standard SSH play on the flop I think.
