Default Buying a truck, first vehicle at 36!

I recently moved from Denmark to upstate NY (no I'm not in prison) and am looking to by my first vehicle ever (at the age of 36). I'm thinking that I want a 4x4 pickup with a crew cab and I would like it at $15,000 or less - obviously it'll have to be a preowned. Any and all advice are welcome and appreciated.

Ford F150 or 250 are good, and I guess a Chevorlet would be a good second choice. You'll get a much newer truck for the same price if you can live with a standard cab though.

ps. 8' bed is the only way to go.

your looking at about a 2000 model. stay away from dodge. ford and chevy about the same. with extended cab the truck gets long so most go for the 7 foot bed. thats what i have on my main pickup. this way you can park it in a spot.
toyota makes nice ones as well and last longer.
make sure you get shift on the fly with a button or knob on the dash. only way to go.

I have a 4X4 Toyota truck with extra cab and love it. I recomended them highly. You can get a good one for $15,000 and they last a long time and are very reliable as Ray pointed out, and also keep their resale value.

Hi Rigg,

Where in upstate NY? Ir your anywhere near syracuse get one with a good plow. I am partial to a Chevy as half my family works for them. Fords seem to do well too. Definitely avoid Dodge/Chrysler.

I am moving north of syracuse this month into my new house - right into the snow belt where last year snow was up to first story roofs from just one lake effect snow storm. It seems plows are almost mandatory in the town.
