Default P. Gordon on Matusow on LFTP

I appreciated Phil taking the Mouth to task on the latest Learn from the Pros for some of his conduct unbecoming of an ex-felon.

He was fairly calm and direct about it.. tried not to escalate....

I particularly liked this resulting exchange RE: Matusow's anger:

Chris Rose: "How does that not take you out of your game, though?"
Mike Matusow: "What's that?"
CR: "When you're goin like this [waves hands around] and you're yelling at people and yo--"
MM: "I DON'T YELL AT PEOPLE!! LOOK, I ONLY Y-"
CR: [panicked and blinking a lot] "YOU'RE YELLIN AT ME RIGHT NOW; I don't even have any chips in front of me!"

Honestly, I think that is the only funny thing I have ever heard Chris Rose say.

This has been discussed ad nauseam, but do you think the new MM is "good for poker." What about ESPN giving his single bicker war with a dealer more air time than most pros total allotment? Could this WSOP time have been better used? Is there any hope anymore for WSOP ??? -- If not Mike, would they just use the time for some other garbage like a life profile of the smelly brit? How did he get loud? obnoxious? smelly? America wants to know...

Is MM good for poker? NO. Who wants to go play poker when they see jerks berating other players and dropping f-bombs on national television?

Lots of teenage wannabes think that rubbing it in when you win and using foul language is macho. These are the same idiots who watch reality TV and pro wrestling.

Whether or not the Mouth is good for poker, he is good for TV. The fact that this is being discussed here is evidence of that. Mike the Mouth, Tony G, etc., are the guys we love to hate. Not all that different from watching pro wrestling, now that I think about it.

I would pay up to 4.99 to see a heads up match between Tony G and Mike Matusow.

Tony G is scary...

I don't think what is good for TV and what is good for poker are the same. I think there's some grief out there now, and that in a while it may escalate as people boycott certain events because of certain corporate rules.. If this type of stuff we're seeing now continues to escalate (Danny N. w/the TOC, Blind structure in 06 WSOP endgame, etc) it may just result in poker becoming yesterday's thing, and having a lot of the easy money walk out the door with the cameras.

Nothing is popular forever, and the world seems saturated with poker right now.... I hope it can last long enough for me to add a digit or two onto the old bankroll before it tightens back up.

Mike's "berating" of other people's play is done in such a sarcastic joking manner that anyone who takes him seriously is as big of a donkey as he says they are.

90% of what he says is quite hilarious, maybe 10% could be taken as mean spirited, and it is usually deserved due to people being total douche bags.

And who cares if he says F---? Poker rooms were built for drinking, smoking, and saying F---. Playing cards came later.

Also, they made a good point in the fact that poker players are always mic'ed up unlike other sports. No one makes a big deal about Tiger Woods swearing when he hits a bad shot, or all the trash talk Micheal Jordan or an NFL player gives during a game. Mike is just competetive, and maybe goes overboard once in awhile but its no different from many athletes (not saying he is one btw..).
