Just to note, I think the book/snyopsis is a pretty cool idea but I understand how some people could "read into it."

I think the "donkey play bust" chip is sheer lunancy.

[ QUOTE ]
Why do you assume this is arrogance or something other than a souvenir, possibly a publicity stunt, and from the sounds of it EV+.

[/ QUOTE ]

Because we judge ourselves based on our intentions and we judge others based on their actions.

no way! I would love to get one of those! First off it would mean you just added to your chip count; second, I think it would be a great souvenir.

Just for completeness of the thread, I thought I'd let you know that Michael Mizrachi made the donkey comment.

I hadn't played a hand since the table had been made into a 10-handed final table. The players who remained were mainly low-limit Internet players, except for Freddy Deeb. I saw several opens in early position with hands like 10-7 and Queen-9, followed by calls of substantial raises.

I waited for a good hand and opened with Ace-King in first position for 70,000. The big blind raised 200,000, and Mizrachi whispered to his wife, "Barry hasn't played a hand. I would need better than pocket jacks to raise there."

When I raised 289,000 more all-in and the hands were tabled, it looked like charity for me. I was about to be the solid chip leader if I won the pot.

I think part of the misunderstanding in the thread is that people think I am giving just an autographed copy of the book. What I actually do, is write a synopsis of the hand that I went broke on, so the winner is able to enjoy that hand in the future. My signature is included only to authenticate it.

It could be an issue if your opponent didn't play the hand so very well. He might not like being reminded of it.

Perhaps you can pull this off anyway--without showing anybody up. There are certainly authors who couldn't pull it off.

I was told that when I was signing the book, but didn't verify it myself, so I am probably wrong. Mizrachi isn't usually very loud like that.

Barry, I think given your public persona (which I assume is consistent with your actual character), it'd be hard for someone to consider your move arrogant. However, some people don't think about things critically so I do see how they could take your move the wrong way. It's not even close to Paul Phillips's move which I think could easily be interepreted as presumptuous and arrogant. I'd go so far as to say that if you're not a stand up guy in the poker world, no one is.

So many people on this board will find anything to latch onto as proof of Barry's "egotism", especially when he gives away something (books, money), which you would think from reading these threads is somehow more egotistical than keeping it for himself would be.

Thinking this is anything other than a very cool gesture is ludicrous, especially when a number of the top players are prone to hysterical exits crying about bad beats. Here we have someone doing something gentlemanly and some are looking for ulterior motives.

[/ QUOTE ]

Agreed anyone who doesn't graciously accept it in the spirit intended is just an obnoxious prick.
