home game in / near Boston
Anyone know of a home game in or near Boston? Not looking for high stakes but would like to find a weekly game. holdem / stud / high/lo / whatever. 8 of us sitting at a table at Foxwoods would pay at least $300 for a night of cards. There's got to be a better setup for a smallstakes game. Anywhere from $1/$2 to $4/8 is fine.

Re: home game in / near Boston
There are a number of people that keep posting here looking for games in Boston, me included...the Foxwoods drive is a pain. The problem is that noone seems to want to start up or host the game. I have a couple friends that are pretty regular players that would be interested, but none of us has the ideal living situation to host a card game. I would be exteremely interested in getting a home game going....preferably hold em, but I can deal with stud. I have some chips if we needed them, but not the rrom in my apartment. They aren't the best, but I'm sick of Connecticut. Hopefully someone will step up and start something......we could all agree to meet at Foxwoods some weekend to make sure everyone is legit. Marc

Re: home game in / near Boston
I have a newborn son and probably would struggle convincing my wife that hosting a poker game is a good idea right now. However, we're both committed to maintaining activities outside of parenting and poker is one of my activities, so I would like to get involved in a regular once a week or twice a month card game. I have a friend who lives in West Roxbury who is usually up for a serious card game. That could probably be our spot, if we got enough people. We use to play in games together but people lost interest, moved, got to busy, etc. and now it's just 2 of us.
Let's see if others respond. To be honest, I get a little concerned when I hear "I've got some friends who may be interested" because then I think of a group of guys working together to soak a card game. As I said, I'm an accountant and have a regular job, regular life, etc. and am not real interested in getting too involved with people who don't do anything but play poker and bet on horses for a living. I'M NOT SAYING THAT YOU FIT THIS MOLD. It's just a little bit of a strange environment to be getting together for a card game with people you don't know outside of the comforts of a public place. Anyways, first things first. How accessible is West Roxbury to you? How many other people do you know who would be interested in a game? What types of stakes? I've played at Foxwoods before a number of times and in that environment I'd like to take everyone their for as much money as I can. However, in the circumstances of a house game, I'd hope a good night would be winning a couple of hundred bucks (no more) and a bad night would be losing the same. To this end, I'd think stakes like $2/$4 or $3/$6 would be appropriate. If we're talking about anything higher than that, I'd probably be uncomfortable outside the confines of a casino. |

Re: home game in / near Boston
I completely understand your skepticism, I fell the same way about walking into a homw game with strangers, that is why I suggested that we pick some Saturday and all go play in the morning tournamnet at Foxwoods..it's only $25. That way we could get to know each other a little and not have to worry about anything.
When I said I had a couple buddies, I didn't mean we were looking to hustle anyone, we are just in the same boat as you and your friend. We all work for a living. We want to play, but a lot of times it will just be the three of us, which stinks. 3-6 sounds perfect. I usually play 5-10 at the casino, but I don't like seeing people lose to much in a home game either (although I'd much rather see someone else lose..lol) The next couple weeks are kind of crazy for me, but I would be very interested in setting up a biweekly type of game. West Roxbury would be perfect. Lets see if anyone else is interested.....we play mostly hold em. Marc. |

Re: home game in / near Boston
Mondays work best for us since our girlfriends are used to us going out for football, and I work a lot during the week. It seems like we have 7 of us....say 2 more and we are perfect.

Hey guys....
I'm a student right outside of Boston (Bentley College) and I'd love to get in on a new LL game in the area. Count me in for sure! - JAA |

Re: home game in / near Boston
now that we have all this interest, is anybody out there interested in hosting the game? My friend in West Roxbury is in graduate school and doesn't want to get too committed by hosting the game.
Also, I'm looking at Friday, December 27th as the time to meet somewhere first and introduce ourselves. Does anyone who is interested have a conflict that evening? If so, please offer an alternative night to meet. Last thought: Is everyone of age, so that if we met at a bar it would not be a problem? |
