Default Anyone been to Akwesasne (near Cornwall, ONT)?

Since our two children will be spending the first two weeks of August in Juneau with their grandparents, my wife and I had planned to drive down to Foxwoods for a couple of days, to be followed by our continuing down to NYC for our wedding anniversary weekend. However, given the high price of hotel rooms in NYC even in the summer, the recent raids on the poker clubs, and our desire to play somewhere other than Foxwoods, we thought, instead, that we would drive up to Montreal for three or four days, after playing a few days at Akwesasne.

I went to their website, and saw that on weekdays the poker room doesn't open until 4pm(!?). I also saw that they spread 3-6 and 5-10.

Can anyone tell me if these games are any good, and if we will have any difficulty getting a game soon after the room opens on a midweek, summer day?

Funny thing about the topic of this post, is that the casino is actually in NY. It's in Hogansburgh, NY which is about 15 minutes east of Messina, NY. It's pretty much in the middle of nowheres. Did they pave the parking lot yet? I was up there about 5 years ago and they said they would pave it "in a few years" LOL.

They run tourneys at 6pm during the week.... since the weather has improved, they have been averaging about 30-40 for the tourneys... the cash games rarely (never) get going before 7:30. There will likely be a uber-fish 3-6 game (7+ to the flop), but no 5-10.... I have not seen one in over 3 months.... NL games have killed the limit games.... they usually have a 1/3 NL game, but the weather has really limited the turnout. Last Saturday they couldn't even spread the 2/5 NL game... not enough interest. I sat at the 1/3 NL must move table for a while and then moved to the 3-6 limit game and introduced a "rock"... good times!

I was up there Memorial Day weekend and even on a holiday Saturday night they only had 4 tables open. A $10/$20 NL with $1000 max buyin with the rest a $3/6 kill with a must move.

The play was horrible but there's nothing special up there. They just couldn't get any games started when I was there...

There might be a bit more action at Akwesasne now, since the Montreal clubs have all closed (due to the bust in late May). It does have a reputation for being horribly run though.

You might wanna check out the Turning Stone casino instead. It's about five hours from Montreal, near Verona, NY. Supposed to have a much better run poker room and much nicer casino/hotel/resort.

I've been there a couple of times, but there were never any games going so I can't comment on the poker room. I stuck around and played BJ and craps.

The casino itself is fairly small. It's a blue-collar, redneck crowd (mostly from Maseena and Cornwall).

The casino itself didn't seem to be all that well-run. It's on an Indian reservation and I believe they only hire tribe members to work there. The last time I was there, the dealer was telling us how the casino was way understaffed. When you have a workforce that is overworked but isn't worried about losing their jobs because they know they'll be hard to replace, you get a lot of complacency. The last time I was there, I found that most of the dealers were surly and/or slow and/or incompetent. I won't be going back.
