seems to me a bet is required. he is not likely to come over the top with a bluff. infact to ensure this i would probably make a larger bet that is more difficult for even a maniac to come over the top of, thus if he comes up and over you might beable to get away.

I'm not afraid of a bluff. I'm afraid of a Q or 8 of spades that just made a straight flush. What else would the BB call the previous bet with?

Basically, I gave checking serious consideration bc the only hand that would call that bet would win the hand (ie Q or 8 of spades)

**ANY** other hand plays the board.

i dont think you understand. if you check and someone moves all in you might have to lay down your hand. thus by betting your discouraging someone who doesn't have the nuts or second nut hand from trying to take the pot down by pushing on you.

Default Results: Interesting hand - Do you bet here?

Yes, I did have position in the hand and threw out a bet on the turn, hoping to incite some action. After the river, I decided that the BB wouldn't call unless they can beat me and I don't think I would call an all-in, so I checked. In my mind the BB had to have a fairly high spade. However, BB showed the 5s. Afterwards, he/she admitted that they weren't sure if they would pay off the bet or not. After pointing out that they played the board, he/she leaned towards not paying off.
