Is this why JJ is my 8th most winning starting hand?
PP 5/10 6max
SB and BB are both solid. I raise UTG with JcJd. Called by SB, BB 3-bets, 2 calls. I plan on raising any flop without overcards. I sometimes cap here. Flop is As 8c 5s Checked to me, I bet, SB call, BB folds. Turn is a brick. Check, I bet? |

I think this is an easy turn bet. You can check behind a non-J river if you think SB is solid enough to not pay off frequently enough w/a smaller PP or an 8/5.

I just think I might be overplaying JJ, considering my hand rankings go: AA, KK, QQ, 99, TT, AKs, 88, JJ. Anyways, I did bet, and SB called. River was Ks and got checked through. This is standard for me and I'm just checking. |

Re: Is this why JJ is my 8th most winning starting hand?
Your failure to cap preflop makes it much more important to bet the turn. SB will call the flop with a much wider range of hands. That increases the chance that betting is not a Sklansky mistake.
He will also call your turn bet with many hands that need to fold and might have folded had you capped. Those extra mistakes increase the expected payoff from betting the turn. |

Re: Is this why JJ is my 8th most winning starting hand?
There are enough draws on the board for SB to chase that I don't think the decision is all that close- bet. I think if it was A62 rainbow instead and he called the flop you probably have to slow down.
Regardless, that mild nausea you feel while the hand is played out (no matter what your actions) is perfectly natural. 2nd |
