Making your opponent show
YOu are playing a limit holdem poker game somewhere. Your opponent bets the river and you call. He taps the felt, or says "good call" or "it's your" or something, to indicate that he was bluffing. Do you table your cards, or do you sit there motionless waiting for your opponent to show?

Re: Making your opponent show
The latter with an unknown or a hand I particularly want to see for some reason. If it's a friend or someone I've played with alot/respect (particularly if they're stuck big), I usually just turn my cards over and cut them a break.

Re: Making your opponent show
If he's willing to chunk his hand in face down and concede the pot, I don't make him show. If he's being a butt-head I might tho. Either way I may or may not choose to show my hand. In some cases tho I'd just turn up my pair and let him off the hook easy tho, especially if he's cool.

Re: Making your opponent show
good point, i'm not too picky in these types of situations. while playing B&M i HATE HATE LOOOOOOAAATTTHE the showdown because so many idiots try to be the last one to show or muck! if i'm there at the showdown, i'm insta flipping my cards *edit* (whether i was the original bettor or not). i play small stakes so it's not like my opponents are going to get an edge on me lol

Re: Making your opponent show
I play no-limit, so this may be a little different, but I sometimes make an opponent show if there was a draw on the board. I want to know if he is the kind to bet on the come or if he was just trying to buy the pot. This can be pretty valuable info later on. I try to do it with a smile, but I want to know if I'm up against a good LAG or a bad LAG.

In Borgata for instance, winning hand has to show even if your opponent mucks. |

Re: Making your opponent show
I sit there motionless. He bet and I called, so he either needs to show me what I have to beat, or forfeit the pot by throwing his hand away if he doesn't want to show. Either way is ok with me. I will never MAKE a guy show his cards. But I never show mine unless I have to either.

Re: Making your opponent show
Well since I never release my cards till they give me the MONEY I won't get into any trouble, even at the borgata, although they might ask me to turn up my winning hand before they GIVE me the money. That would be just fine, as long as the other loser hands are already dead and in the muck. You gotta be a stickler about this kind of thing to avoid being angle-shot or slow-rolled.

Re: Making your opponent show
that's an excellent point. i learned that from an obvious regular at the casino i played at...be careful about throwing in your cards early, could look like you are mucking your cards, conceding the pot. anytime the gentleman won a hand, he did not throw his cards in until the dealer was pushing the chips toward him.
