Default How to play top pair in early position?

Hi Just wondering how best to play top pair in a full 9-handed or ten-handed game in early position, assuming there are no draws on the flop? What if they are gap draws such as KJx and you have AK?

How should you play if you have TPTK? What if someone raises you after your bet? What if a blind bets before you?

And how should you play on a drawless board if you have top-pair 2nd or 3rd best kicker?

Please discuss.

I never want to go to showdown with top pair, I want to take the pot down on the flop or get out at the first opportunity
