Your strategies to prevent yourself from tilt calls
After a brutal run of bad cards online, I went over my biggest pots in the last 20K of hands.
I realized, that approximately 25% of my big losses in this period came from tilt calls. Hands where I refused to believe that I got Gutshot again, that my Aces got outflopped again or I talked myself into something like" this bet is too big to be a valuebet, he must be bluffing again", etc. In short, I made plays, I usually know better. I made... - calls, I would never advocate to do, if you show me the hand history and tell me some background. - calls, I would never do, in phases of running normal or good. - calls, I may have been able to avert, if it was live Poker, where it's more than just one click to blow your stack away. - calls, I may avoid in future hands using your strategy of [your strategy here] Now, do people use tricks like wait at least 10 secs. or walk 3 times around your chair or whatever to get yourself under control before you make a big call? No matter how exotic, please tell me your way to handle it... |

Re: Your strategies to prevent yourself from tilt calls
You have just perfectly described tilt. Call call call call call...
If I ever find a way better than losing 40% of my bankroll and then not playing for a month, I'll let you know. |

Re: Your strategies to prevent yourself from tilt calls
1. I play 2 or 3 tables at once.
2. I Listen Music. 3. I'm a winner every week or every month, not every day. |

Re: Your strategies to prevent yourself from tilt calls
Interestingly, I looked at my PT stats and I am in the red when I call on the flop (and I am well into the green when I bet/raise on the flop).
Btw, after reading Schoomaker's article on tilt, my game has become much better. I also recommend his other articles on Cardplayer, such as Overestimating Our Abilities and Anger Management. These articles, IMHO, are a necessary complement to any 2+2 books. |

Re: Your strategies to prevent yourself from tilt calls
Do a search for tilt in the psychology forum.
One posters advice was: Do not act until you verbalize out loud to yourself why you are going to call. This ties your brain to your decision and reduces impulse/emotional reactions. Alternatively, you could play naked with an elastic handy. When you make a bad call snap yourself in the balls real hard with the elastic... that should teach you too |

You're a lucky man. Loose raises are definately infinately better than loose calls.

That article had a banner ad next to it for Full Tilt Poker.
Gotta love the little ironies..... |
