I could be wrong, but I think the two (preflop play and postflop play) are much more closely related than people seem to recognize. When you loosen up your starting hand requirements, you are much more likely to hit marginal draws and weaker 'made' hands. This is fine if you are a good player, but the typical n00b is going to lose a lot of $ over the long haul by consistantly misplaying these marginal hands on and after the flop.
I don't want to speak for the OP, but I think he was saying that the new starting hand charts were helping him as a beginner by putting him in less complicated situations after the flop than experienced players typically face. As he gains experience, he'll better know how to play these marginal situations, and his starting hand requirements will loosen up accordingly.
