Checking My Small Blind Play

[Ironman]

I typically play for an hour or so each night when I'm doing a workout on my bike.

This is a Table from UB 1/2 O8 limit. My VPIP was 28.13% so I felt I probably completed too many small blinds.

Would you have completed these three hands?

Hand 1: 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Hand 2: A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Hand 3: K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]


When I look at Pokertracker, I've found that these hands in the SB are just good enough to get me in trouble. My tendancy these days is to throw each of these away.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This sort of thing depends way too much on the # of limpers. Still, you wouldn't be missing much by throwing away every single one of these hands. I'll play some high 3-straights if the odds look good, but the K552 stuff never.

I'd probably never play hands 1 or 3 out of the SB. I probably wouldn't play hand 2 either although I might once in a while if the Ace was suited. K552 and KJT5 are pretty lousy hands and, as you said, only get in you in trouble when they sort of hit the flop. Save yourself the grief and pitch 'em.

I've found playing 2 or 3 tables makes folding these hands easier because you won't be as tempted to play them out of boredom.

I look for hands with some nut potential. 34, 3 wheels, AXs, three high cards, big pocket pairs. At a discount I play these but I am usually getting like a gillion to one in my loose live games. I avoid small or medium pocketpairs. Two medium cards usually equals a fold.

Maybe hand 1 if the odds are good. Usually muck 2 and 3.

Lonn - I'd guess he has a stationary exercise bike.

I would fold them all. Yes is it only 1/2 price but these hands are sub marginal and remember that you are going to have to play OOP for the entire hand.

I think you're thinking backwards on this one. Hand one's pretty much a P.O.S., whereas 2 and 3 are IMO playable. Sure, hand one's got emergency low, but you can scarcely hit anything good with it. 2 and 3 you can at least make a good broadway draw.

I seem to always be in training for some race somewhere, so I put my daughters to bed around 8 and head down to the basement where I have this tripod sort of thing that hooks up to my racing bike. The faster you pedal, the more resistance it creates.

I have my portable computer set next to it so I can play while I'm grinding out 20 miles before bed.
