Hi everyone, I am actually a limit player trying to get into the NL game. Tomorrow I will be heading to my local casino and attempting to make a score at the 2-5 NL tables. I know that general strategy between limit and NL is very diferent, but how much? What kind of hands should i be limping with in a standard game and in what positions? Any help would be appriciated

Pay alot closer attention to who is tight and who is loose because you have to toss top pair ALOT more.

Even if you have the bankroll to play deep stacked, the NL strategy in Getting Started on Holdem - extra tight, small stacks - is something to consider until you get into the flow of the game.

I used to bowl, so I'll use bowling as my analogy to you. When you began bowling, did you start out in a scratch or handicap league? Scratch or handicap tourneys?

Starting NL play at 2/5 may be a stretch. Don't lay with too much of your BR at first. Better yet, start out at 1/2 NL.

Coming from limit, you will be used to drawing or just playing marginal hands for just one more bet. It'll cost you a lot more in NL.

Also, don't assume you will be limping in at 2/5 NL. Preflop raises will be $15-25. Good luck.

Expect to lose you bankroll each time you play for about three months, if not longer. The differences between Limit and NL are huge. Play in much smaller games to start with unless.

surely a competant poker player can get a grasp of NL long before that right?

its different, but not so much that a night of reading shouldnt prepare you for. he's not playing 25-50.
