If you bet the turn you have fold equity and you're also betting for value. You also disguise your hand a wee bit which might get you paid off a bit more on the river. |

Obviously you dont lead the flop for a free card, you lead because you have a draw that will hit ~1/3 of the time by the river, and you "gain" when the others call the flop. When your frush doesnt hit on the turn, your equity takes a dive. You accomplished your goal of building the pot on the flop, when the turn is dry and you have little to no folding equity, you gotta just check/call and pray for the river crub
