Warcraft III can be a good waste of a couple of hours if you feel like some time off from watching cards go by.

Nasdaq, Archapelago, Inca-Island, Brut, NYSE?

I'm not sure that these top 40,000, but they have to be close, right?

But i would take the good WC players if i could have all the other B.net players.Most of these people are griefers and losers with huge egos. just imagin having 2 maniacs and 1 good player added to each of your tables. i think you could handle it just fine.

Party is big, but not up there with the biggest. I suspect that the table servers are the easy part. A single server may run 100 tables, for example. Scaling it out to 5000 tables requires 50 servers. Servers are cheap compared to everything else.

The difficult problems are the bandwidth and databases. Routing each client to the proper server requires some significant hardware. Logging the actions of every player and transaction generates lots of data.

I daytraded for a while (don't have the time now) and 40k connections is nothing. The amount of connections and transactions taking place is much higher than that. These systems have to be fast for everyone too.

seconds=lost/made money

As someone else kind of put it, PP is nothing more than a pimple on the ass of the tech world. For the amount of money they are making the software/system just plain sucks.

I am quite surprised (or maybe I'm not) that they haven't hired people who know what they're doing to streamline/optimize their system and/or write better software.

Lineage: The Bloodpledge, the largest online RPG in the world has the most concurrent users at once and the highest subscriber base.

It's not well known state-side (I played it for awhile, the US servers only have maybe 1k-2k on at once) but in Korea they have had times where they reach 500k concurrent users.
