Card rooms do this when they want to have a 'main' table for some game (usually NL or some limit, I think the smallest I've seen must move is 10/20) that's always full. What happens is when a seat opens at the main table, then a person at one of the other tables has to move to fill it. I believe it's usually the person who's been in the game the longest that moves to the main table, but I think I've seen some rooms make the biggest stack move in a NL game. I don't think moving the big stack is at all common, though.

PdPG is right, but I'll extend his limit down further than $10/20. I've sat in a $5/10 w/ Kill @ $100 must move game at Foxwoods.

Often times this is a temporary situation when they start a second (or third) table at a given limit without having a long list. The new game will be "must move" to the "main game" for an hour or two, to protect the existing game. Then, if there is a list for the game, the "must move" is removed.

I've seen them at 3/6 in a couple of cardrooms.

The must move for NL can be a very good table. You get the clueless players who don't last long enough to make it to the main table. The main table usually has the better players who have been playing for 8 hours.

And the stacks are usually much deeper, which is very relevant if its a capped buyin game.

The Bellagio 2-5 200 max game was a must move when I was there at 10am and they were still opening tables. The first table I was at was kind of tight and fishy, but I was the first one they tapped to move for some reason and I ended up in the shark tank looking across at a blond girl with a $1,600 stack, among others.

When they make you "must move", why don't you pick up your stack and go home. That will end this nonsense.

You usually have the option of refusing the move and quitting the game, and then being put up on the list again. There is normally a time requirement before you can sign up or sit back down. Varies.

pick up your stack and go home

we are talking about poker players, right?
