Re: Turning Stone ?
I've seen Turning Stone mentioned quite a bit lately on the forums. Do people actually go out of there way to make the trip there? If so, how come? I'm from the area which is why I am curious.

I've seen Turning Stone mentioned quite a bit lately on the forums. Do people actually go out of there way to make the trip there? If so, how come? I'm from the area which is why I am curious. [/ QUOTE ] In a word, sometimes. Why? Cheap(er). Echo Evan, I genarally try to steer clear of Western/Central NY since leaving college. Mostly my trips to TS are when I was passing through for some other reason (driving back to homecomming, weddings, or once getting snowed out of NYC by a Nor'easter). A year or two ago I tried a couple of dedicated overnights, mostly because the rooms were much cheaper than Foxwoods. The drive from NYC is considerably longer; 3.5-4 hrs compared to 2-2.5 to FW or 2.5 to AC. (I highly recommend the Star Diner in Saugerties-Exit 20). The poker action is genreally good, but I think it plays a bit tougher than comporable limits at FW. I attribute that to not having the affluent NY and Boston influx nearby. My wife plays table games, and $5-10 tables are the norm, rather than $15. The hotel facilites are very nice, though the buffet and restaurants are diappointing. Even the 'marquee' restaurants (steakhouse, Italian, and Chinese) are average at best. I might try the new golf courses next season with a golfing/poker-playing colleage and his fiancee, but I mostly play at FW now. |

Re: Turning Stone ?
Its more that I don't like central NY in general.
When I went to Turning Stone the first time I loved it. Now that I've been to other rooms I realize that its not great, but its okay. I'd definitely stop by if I was in the area (although that's very infrequently). |

I might try the new golf courses next season [/ QUOTE ] The Shenendoah (sp?) course is very good. That's actually how I found out about the casino. I was coming back from the PGA Championship with a friend (edtost) of mine when it was at Oak Hill and we stopped in Syracuse for a night to see another friend. The next day we played golf there without any knowledge that a casino even existed. We didn't go that night (or even play poker seriously) but we ended up going back up about 6 months later on a whim, mainly because of the 18 year old age restriction. Now that we have both been to AC a few times and play regularly in NYC I doubt I'll go back, but if I'm near I'd stop by. |

Re: Turning Stone ?
Everytime I'm there, I get the "You live in Philly, what on earth are you doing all the way out here?" question several times.
As a 19 year old player, I don't have much of a choice. I can't see myself heading all the way out there once I'm 21, with AC being three hours closer. |

As a 19 year old player, I don't have much of a choice [/ QUOTE ] Dude, tell me you're kidding. I'm 19 too and I consider the Borgata home. Seriously, I look like I'm about 14 years old (just ask any 2+2ers from NYC) and I've never not been able to play at the Borgata or the Trop. The Borgata is a little tougher and occasionally requires a fake ID but the Trop would let you in with a library card. Basically what I'm saying is stop wasting your time driving to bumblefuck, NY and just go to AC, you'll be fine. |
