Re: What do you do while waiting for a seat
ALWAYS call ahead if the casino you are playing at allows it.
My perferred game right now is the 1-2 blind No limit game at Turning Stone but when I call I ask to be put on the board for 15-30 to 3-6 as well as both no-lmit games. Turning Stone is generous with call-ins and allows you to stay on the board for 1 hour after calling so I call when I am 50 minutes away and if there is no no-limit tables available I will sit at the highest buy in game with an open seat while I wait but it usually doesn't take too long. Once I went to play blackjack while waiting for my seat at TStone and while I was playing I missed my name being called and got bumped to the bottom of the list, after that I have always stayed in the poker room while I wait. -Steve |

At the Borgata they have a digital board to see your name. I would put make a note of whose name the brush would call next and go right before the final call. [/ QUOTE ] lol, that's one of my favorite things to do, brings down wait times on the weekend significantly on another note, does the borgata accept call ahead seating? |

Re: What do you do while waiting for a seat
The B&M players do not respect anyone that brings a poker book with them. Most of them think it is funny and believe only a bad player needs a poker book.
I keep the book low profile and the few times someone comments, they usually make fun of me for having a poker book. Just like so many other things they believe, like a deck change will change your luck or changing into a "HOT" seat will improve your luck, poker books are a waste of money. Now, if I see someone reading Phil Helmuth's book or Super System #1 before sitting down at low limit, my ears perk up a little because those book aren't going to help much in that game. So far, I have never seen anyone other than myself reading Sklansky/Malmuth/Miller etc. Maybe once I saw WLLH being read. |

(unless you are already in the hotel/casino) They do have a dinner list however and I have seen players play omaha (short list) get into the game, go to 'dinner' and then return to their NL Hold'em game (100 person list on the weekends) |

When waiting for a seat... Play Omaha!
I played at the borgata many times last summer and while waiting on the 100 player NL list I also put my name on the 2 person list for the 10-20 Omaha8 (half kill) game and it was awesome!
At that time I was still a beginer Omaha8 player however playing in this game was certaintly a winning proposition because of all of the people who would wait for the No-Limit game and play the Omaha8 game in the meantime. It was funny, I would always immediately know who those players were. It was not because I am an expert judge of player or anything like that but it was because of one specific tell that they all exhibted. You ready for it? When they sat down at the table they would ANNOUNCE 'I am only playing Omaha as I wait for the NL Hold'em game to open up.' It was brilliant! At all times we had 2-3 of these players at the table just dumping money to everyone else. They would put $200 on the table, blow it, rebuy, blow it again when they thought their A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] was good for a flush on a [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] board and then leave the poker room muttering under their breath about how they blew though their stack before even getting into the game they came to play. There was even one time where I sat on the 120 person NL list for FOUR HOURS and when I got called for the table we had 4 guys who didn't know how to play Omaha at our table and I just couldn't leave! I went back to the bottom of the list and 4 hours later I took my NL seat for 10 minutes and then went on the dinner list before returning to NL. If you are in a situation where you are usually waiting to get into the game that you want to play, I have one simple, very profitable suggestion to you. LEARN HOW TO PLAY OMAHA8! It is a lot of fun and when there is a big list for hold'em it is always profitable. -Steve |

Re: What do you do while waiting for a seat
i like to bring along a few porn mags and not just any porn mags the freaky kind that you have to ask for by name or order online from some russia outpost. The last thing i want ot be at a poker table is tense and if you are waiting the axiety and anticipation will get you tight... So if you start thumbing thru the freaky pages chances are you will be a lil "looser". Please note i do not work for any porn magazine nor do i recommend any happy ending while reading in public. The positive side effect is watching those waiuting near you how they react. I love sitting next to some 68 yo Qtip and asking her hey toots did they do this back in your hey day? That my friends is always good for a laugh.

TStones phone number
Turning Stone's phone number is 1-800-771-7711. When you call just ask for the poker room. Your call will be inexplicably forwarded to the floor's booth accross the room from the board and you will have to be transfered accross (another reason why the people in charge of the TStone poker room are a bunch of morons -- sorry I am still angry about having my 6 person table closed at 4:00 am to combine with a 5 person table leaving me out of my game for two hours so that they didn't have to use a dealer)
