Default Two computer questions.

I don't know a whole lot about computers, so please explain what I should do as if I were a 3-year old. Thanks.

1. My computer is frickin loud. It actually came with 8 fans. I removed 4 of them, but it's still the loudest computer I've ever used.

2. It spontaneuosly restarts about every 2-6 hours if I'm either playing at least 3 poker tables or downloading torrents. It came with 1GB RAM, I thought that may have been the problem, so I put in another 1GB, but it made no difference.

I bet if you put the 4 fans back in, it might stop restarting. Restarts like that are probably the result of the CPU overheating.

EDIT: Also, for question 1 you can buy some fans rated for being quiet. It hink they tend to be on the more expensive side.

Or, if you're filthy rich, you can get a liquid-cooled system which I'm pretty sure are near silent.

The restarting has been happening ever since I got it. I took the fans out about 3 months later.

Are the water cooled systems hard to install? I don't care how much they cost, because I'm about ready to chuck this thing if I can't fix these problems.

Yes! Something I'm finally fully qualified to answer.

Heat shouldn't be this large of an issue, 8 fans vs 4 fans?? 1 is usually enough and 2 is almost always so. Water cooling is a difficult install and necessary only when overclocking your components. I'd look into other possiblities.

Any page fault errors? Try swapping out the original memory with the new memory you bought.

Is your power supply sufficient? Have you added many new hard disks or other internal power draws?

Have you scanned for viruses/malware?

Have you kept track of updates for Windows and your drivers? Run Windows Update.

You said this computer has been giving your trouble ever since you purchased it. What kind of computer is this and how did you acquire it?

Sorry, I have no idea what this means.

Crap, I forgot which ones were the originals. There's 4 slots, 512MB in each.

It's 420W.

No.

I run Spybot, Adware, and Mcafee virus scan about every two weeks. I've never had a virus.

It's on auto-update.

Probably a heat or power issue. Put more cooling in. If that doesn't work, get a Battery Backup Supply that regulates voltage.

Dude, what in hell were you thinking? Why do people throw out everything they know about buying stuff when it comes to computers? If you're not well up on the subject (and based on your assumption that you needed 2GB RAM, you're not!) and don't have specialist requirements (poker & movies/music don't qualify), you'll be fine with the cheapest thing Dell/HP/etc sell. Sounds like you've been screwed on this one, don't waste any more time/money on it, and get yourself over to http://www.dell.com

Funny, I agree with the Troll. I was a build your own guy for years, but the T1 vendors are down to the level that it just doesn't make as much sense anymore. I can get a complete computer(minus some ram that I still buy local) that is engineered for heat removal at the quitest level possible and comes with a complete OS and warranty. I guess I'm just an old fart because that's appealing to me.

My job is to play poker, not fix the computer.

Dude, I didn't get a Dell because the same computer from woud've cost $300 more. And I hate Dell anyway, I had a Dell before this one.

I'm thinking of getting this.

Thoughts?
