Re: Probably a stupid question...how does Party know I\'m a girl?
I turned of avatars right away so I never realized that you could tell a person's gender that way - but I see extremely hostile chat towards women fairly often. A lot of people seem to go off even more when a woman puts a bad beat on them or just wins a hand.

Re: Probably a stupid question...how does Party know I\'m a girl?
I'd say 75 percent of the "women" on party poker aren't women anyway. I very seriously doubt having a female icon will have any real negatives on your play. If someone says something really offensive, report the chat, then sit back and enjoy imagining what their reaction is (since they already have an anger management problem) to not being able to chat anymore. I'm not a big fan of turning your chat off because people will often give away information in chat (makes it much easier to tell when someone has just gone on tilt when they go on a long crap-talking spree). Good luck on party, best bonuses on the internet, you should make an account at each skin.

You can write to support and ask them to change your gender... [/ QUOTE ] Yes, but then somebody knocks on your door a week or two later and says they're here to perform the surgery you requested. |

You specified it, not when you signed-up, but when you first deposited. They ask for name, address, and gender there.

Re: Probably a stupid question...how does Party know I\'m a girl?
Thanks everybody for your responses.
From everything I've heard/read about Party's customer service, I would think I'd wait the better part of 10 years for the surgeon to show up. I guess I just have to resign myself to being a girl. It does have some compensations. (And, for a few of you: no I don't enter a bunch of hands UTG, I do get much more abusive chat, and I do seem to get reraised significantly more often...but I can work that last to my advantage once I've identified the pattern. I also have laundry to do today and BF can't be trusted with it, so I will in fact get on with the washing.) |

Re: Probably a stupid question...how does Party know I\'m a girl?
I find being a woman to be a tremendous advantage live, especially against unknowns (all the regulars I play with know my tricks by now. ) However online people tend to assume that people with female avatars are really guys anyway, so I don't think it matters much. Although I agree that people are incredibly mean when I lay a beat on them.

When they scrape the screen to see if you are using illegal software they also take a look at you and attempt to determine your gender. I always wear a mask when playing.

[ QUOTE ] where does it say on partypoker whether your opponent is female or male??? [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] Look at the avatar (if you don't have them turned off). People who identify themselves as female when they sign up get the female avatar corresponding to that chair; otherwise, they get the male one. -Mike |
