Default So I spent 3 hours at the Cherokee Casino in OK last night . . .

Broke my casino virginity last night. Normally I play NL 6-max online, but I got on both the 4/8 limit and 2/5 NL list last night.

Played 3 hours of 4/8, ended up a whopping ~$30. I made some horrible mistakes, but started adjusting better towards the opponents / limit play after the first hour. Never played live, but the play reminded me of Paradise microlimit HE. Lots of calling stations, no bluffing. There was only 1 LAG / TAG at the table.

I lost a few big hands so I was surprised I still ended up at the end of the session. Had TPTK with AK vs an AA overpair LAG. Missed a nut FD and an OESFD in two very big family pots.

Rake was horrible. I think they averaged $3 / pot with a $5 cap, on top a $1 - $2 toke. Is it rude not to toke on very small pots (like 2-3 BB or smaller)?

I think after the newbie jitters wore off in 15 minutes, I got pretty bored. I definately don't think live poker is for me, but the feeling of stacking chips after winning a huge pot is irreplaceable.

Edit: Here's one hand I wonder if anyone would've played differently.

LAG raises pre-flop UTG. MP1 calls, I 3-bet, LAG caps. The only times I've seen anyone at the table do this so far has been Aces, but I could be wrong. MP1 and I call, 3 players to the flop.

Flop is J-high rainbow. LAG bets, MP1 calls, I call.

Turn is a brick, maybe a flush draw (can't remember). LAG bets, MP1 folds, I raise. LAG calls.

River is a Q, no flush. LAG checks, I check behind.

Did I mangle this hand?

Regardless of his holding, he played this hand perfectly. The only question is whether to value bet the river or not, and I lean more towards value betting with any two against any opponent.

How long a drive from Austin?

All-in on the river.

Around 7 to 8 hours from Austin to Tulsa if you drive around the speed limit and the traffic is not too bad coming up I35 to Dallas and you don't get caught in rush hour traffic in Dallas as well.

Casino is on western edge of Tulsa towards Claremore

Austin -> Dallas was 3 hours, Dallas to Tulsa was 3.5 hours.

Won ~$100 at 4/8 and lost $300 at NL 2/5. There's no max buy-in (min $200 buy-in) and average stacks were 100 - 200BB. There were a lot of pretty good players there, better than I was expecting. The NL tables were pretty TAG / LAG'ish.

They take a $2 BBJ drop per pot (which is included in my earlier rake numbers), but the BBJ is not progressive. They pay out a flat $1.5k to the BBJ winner and $500 to the rest of the table.

Cherokee Casino is east of Tulsa, I'm actually staying at the DoubleTree hotel in downtown Tulsa.

i do not consider it to be rude if you do not toke on a 2-3 bb "win." but that's just me. the only time i do not toke is if i take down the blinds with a single raise lol

the rake is going to be around $3-$5 anywhere. the 4-8 game there is the equivalent of .25/.50 online and is a waste of time. they usually have a 6/12 full kill going everyday of the week which is a much better game, but I can't play it anymore because they changed the age limit to 21 on june 1st.

Bet the river with your KK. Like the call flop, raise turn line. Follow through with the value bet on the river.

Any reason why they did that? I know down in the OKC area, the casinos are still running at 18...at least the Thunderbird casino does, and I'm pretty sure the Lucky Star does as well.
