do these have ethical/moral implications? (really dumb ??s, sry)
two quick things that have zip to do with each other:
Would it be somehow wrong (wasteful/greedy) to buy a new pair of socks for each day and then throw 'em out/ donate to goodwill, etc? i am seriously considering it- 20 pair at cosco for 4.99. and a buddy, who was drunk at the time, made me promise/ swear to kick the holy living crap out of him if he does cocaine this weekend. being drunk as well, i aggreed. I wanna support his effort to back off the 'white pony' (lol), but it seems like an extreme/risky thing that probably sounded good while loaded on drugs and whisky... next day he remembered and says it's still on.... is it more immoral to beat up a freind at his request or break a promise? also,if you think i should whoop him (i am 90% that he will NOT make it all weekend), how to avoid causing injury and still make the point? |

Sounds like your best bet. He'd probably take a punch or three, but he could start fighting back at any time. Especially, obviously, if he's coked up.
As to the socks, go for it. It's your money, and that's not a lot of it. |

Heh, I guess it depends how grounded your friend is. Wouldn't want a freaked out cokehead tearing your eyes out. Slaps can be very painful and humiliating without causing more than bruises and mouth cuts. But they might be so humiliating he can't take it. I'd sure be careful on this.

I wouldn't resort to hitting him, but i'd wrestle him down and hold him while trying to talk some sense into him. If that isn't enough, I'd let him go and reassess once he gets sober.
Granted, I don't have a lot of experience trying to keep friends off drugs. However, I do have a lot of experience trying to keep friends off skanky hoes. |

Just wash the socks before you give'em away.

I'm guessing the reason he wants to throw them away is because he doesn't want to wash them.

Just because people are poor doesn't mean that they want to wear your old socks. If you really want to be charitable, buy a new bag and donate it.
As for your bud, you need to keep your word. Smack the living [censored] out of him. Orrrr, you could play a little holiday joke by calling the cops on him or sneezing wildly into the blow. It would be even more fun to substitute Red Devil lye for his coke. If you really are a good friend to him and want him to quit, he'd appreciate any of those ideas. |

that's part of it, but i gotta do wash anyway... they're just never as soft and comfy after you wear 'em once. i've worn new pairs every day for a week now, and i gotta say, i don't wanna go back. it would mean an extra hoour or so of poker each month. a small price to pay... |
