There was a quote that goes something like this: "Soon it will be illegal to have a child born with genetic diseases." Maybe it was in Civilization 4, but I ca't remember

The first chapter of Richard Dawkins incredible book, The Ancestors Tale, is titled, The Conceit of Hindsight. Evolution has not been on any progressive journey towards [censored] sapians. Evolution is quite simple, species are the way they are because they are well suited to survive in their enviroment. You can be sure that a large enough metiorite could wipe out all life on earth regardless of intelligence.
And, btw, intelligence is just one trait that can be selected. Humans wearing clothing to protect themselves from the elements instead of growing more body hair is just an indicator that intelligence is favored by natural selection. It in no way is a replacement for selection in our evolution.

Does anyone else find it annoying, yet still slightly humorous, that the [censored] filters are filtering out our genus, H o m o?

So, is evolution over?

[/ QUOTE ]
No. Different genetic traits are still associated with differential reproductive rates. (For example, taller males have more offspring, on average, than shorter males.)

So, is evolution over? It seems to me that intelligence has taken over where natural selection left off.

I'll get back to you in 20,000 years or so.

I thought the fact that our appendix does nothing and we no longer need our wisdom teeth is such evidence of evolution.

I thought I read somewhere that on average, people are taller now than they were even just a few hundred years ago. If true, wouldn't this be some sort of evolutionary process?
