i would make a claim against the casino as they were being crappy to him so they deserve the suit.

He didn't get a comp to the buffet, so what? They could've shown more class about it, but they don't have any kind of obligation to do so.

they may very well be negligent here. letting someone have a bottle at the table or not policing the game when trouble was brewing. etc. a business open to the public has an obligation to take the proper measures to protect its customers.
but to have someone get hurt and then ignore the situation is wrong and should be punished.

I agree, but there's nothing about what Sobe said that would makes it appear like they ignored the situation.

If someone wants to randomly get up from a table and suddenly smash a glass over someone's head, or a chair, or whatever, I can't see how Harrah's can do anything to prevent it. They could be serving all alcohol in plastic cups, but so could the Bellagio and the rest of the casinos around the country.

If anyone thought the card room was unsafe, they're free to take action beforehand, or just stay home. Using some unlikely tragedy after the fact to place blame on someone barely involved is being results oriented.

SoBeDude can make a premises liability claim against Harrah's and he will win almost automatically. Whether Harrah's was or wasn't negligent is irrelevant. This is a strict liability tort, which means they have no excuses.

I couldn't care less about the legal ramifications. Moral responsibility here is a lot more interesting.

in all my years i have only seen a few get shot or stabbed.

Only a FEW shot or stabbed?

To be honest about being naieve, I never thought about hit happening at all.

I'm not the biggest guy, but I am 6'1" and in shape. I've always felt I could handle myself ok. But to be honest, that blow to the head incapacitated me. If he had decided to take another shot at me with the remains of that broken bottle, I couldn't have stopped him.

Thankfully he was more interested in trying to get away than finish me off. But what if he wasn't?

This has opened my eyes. (thankfully more than it opened my head)

You should definitely push them for something. I don't think it was really Harrah's fault, but from a PR perspective, I would think it would be in their best interest to do something.

That's a matter of experience. Believe it or not, if you get hit enough times, you get used to it. You can lift weights until you can't put your arms down to your sides but you'll always be at a disadvantage against someone who knows how to take (or dodge) a punch.
