Default Any opinions on Harrah\'s in Vegas?

I'll be heading out to Vegas for the 1st time soon, and me and my wife will be staying at the Venetian (sadly has no poker room). I see Harrah's, Mirage, and Wynn are all relatively close (in walking distance I assume?). Was thinking of trying out Harrah's since it's right next door. Any opinions on the room/competition at Harrah's? I primarily play low-limit (3/6 or 4/8 or 1/2 NL), and was thinking the other rooms might cater more to the high rollers. Would any of the Vegas regulars recommend Harrah's? Looking for a nice friendly room with (hopefully) soft competition. I'll be playing on Sunday and Monday nights. Any opinions/advice welcome. Thanks!

I stayed at Harrah's back in April only because I got comped and it is close to The Mirage. I considered the best part of Harrah's to be that I could make it to The Mirage poker room in less than 5 minutes.

I decided to play for an hour at Harrah's while I was killing time late one night. I played 1/2 NL for an hour and the play was generally horrible. The room is small and at that time only about half the tables were going. I think the highest they spread was 3/6? and the 1/2 NL. I would still recommend The Mirage or the MGM.

It's(Harrahs)a small room.

You might like it, but there are likely to be only one or two tables going most of the time.

Imperial Palace is just past Harrahs. Be warned that IP is a maze and you should ask directions to anywhere you want to go in there. IP has low buy in tournaments and very bad players. IP seems to fit what you are looking for the best.

Mirage is just across the street from Harrahs. In fact, as you walk from Venetian to Harrahs, there is a crosswalk and then flat escalator into Mirage, right at the entrance to Harrahs. Mirage has many $3-6 HE games and also $1/2 NL I believe. The room is bigger, and you likely will have a few tables to choose from.

All of the above are maybe 5 minute walk from the Venetian entrance.

I will also recommend Chipotle at in between Casino Royale and Harrahs as an excellent lunch/snack for relatively cheap(drink + burrito for about $7).

Also, Casino Royale has a very good fun book with matchplay coupons as well as the least expensive craps tables on the strip.

Casino Royale is between Venetian and Harrahs.

Also, Wynn is accessible by the monorail and may be worth checking out.

Bellagio is outstanding and not that far from Venetian. If walking, it is about a 15 minute walk. You might want to take a cab, though not during rush hour. If you like alcohol, they serve the best drinks in Vegas. If not, they have a great strawberry Julius. During the week, getting a seat at a $4-8 HE game is no problem. A $1/2 NL seat may take a few minutes.

BTW, walking around in Vegas is a breeze(except for the heat). At the major intersections, there are these giant bridges and you do not need to mess with crossing the streets or waiting for traffic lights.

You're really close to the Wynn and Mirage, which are both way nicer than Harrah's. Mirage has 3-6, Wynn 4-8, and plenty of action in both games, if it were me I would play at these rooms. Have a good trip.

I was just in Vegas over the weekend and stayed at the Venetian as well (last time a non poker player plan the accomodations )

I played the Harrah's room and thought it was fine. It is a little small, didn't ever have more than four tables running (we were there over a weekend). The competition was plenty soft, and the room was fairly well run. We didn't wait more than 15 minutes for 3/6 or 1/2 NL.

We didn't play in any other rooms, but there are probably better places to be found.

I played there last fall while waiting for the games to start up at the Imperial Palace down the street, and like others I found it fine but not spectacular. I think $2/4 was the only overnight game, and then a $4/8 started IIRC.

Speaking of the IP just down the Strip, they don't have many games going at off-peak times (mostly just $2/4 in the daytime, maybe some occasional NL or $3/6, I don't know about nights) but their comps are great ($3/hr for $2/4) and you might even get to play against some of the poker lesson graduates.
