Re: just inside the money - 7 times BB - AT suited UTG - what\'s your play.
Hey Rob,
You basically have to call here since you've put in nearly half your stack. The best way to go is pushing off the bat IMO. The 10xBB push rule is there for a reason...it prevents you from having to 2nd guess in situations like this. |

thanks bro..
as I was telling Exit - I'd push on a small pair or something like AJ, but AT or lower (what I call A/rag) I've been a lot tighter...it's been my bust and bubble hand for so long lately... he had QQ - he'd have called - RB |

Re: just inside the money - 7 times BB - AT suited UTG - what\'s your p
I fold preflop. I don't like to push here with a hand that is likely to be dominated or being a 30-70 if I get called. I push other non dominated hands here alot more often than A10o.

Re: just inside the money - 7 times BB - AT suited UTG - what\'s your p
agreed. I busted out of a 180 the other day with 8x bb with 78s. I caught crap from the table, but honestly, I'd rather do it with the 78s that a10off. You're usually in better shape if called (although the case you had, up against a big pair, you're better with A10, obviously.). The problem with the a10 in early pos, is AK or AQ is probably gonna call and you're in BAD shape. Whereas with the 78s example, you're not in bad shape at all.

Re: just inside the money - 7 times BB - AT suited UTG - what\'s your p
Ok, well, I did say AT off and 87s. And running pokerstove, it is bettter (although only 2 points. I thought it was more):
equity (%) win (%) / tie (%) Hand 1: 28.1659 % [ 00.27 00.01 ] { ATo } Hand 2: 71.8341 % [ 00.70 00.01 ] { AA-99, AKs-AJs, AKo-AQo } Text results appended to pokerstove.txt 493,143,552 games 1.557 secs 316,726,751 games/sec equity (%) win (%) / tie (%) Hand 1: 30.5383 % [ 00.30 00.00 ] { 87s } Hand 2: 69.4617 % [ 00.69 00.00 ] { AA-99, AKs-AJs, AKo-AQo } |

Re: just inside the money - 7 times BB - AT suited UTG - what\'s your p
thanks guys -
this is the kind of stuff that still bugs me - the bustouts - cause I could have postponed it - but like you say, given my chip size - I have no choice. I have a few notes on my desk cube - (like post-it's) - one says "Raise the big hands" - a lesson after I busted limping with KQ suited when a raise could have driven out the winning hand. The other one is "No more A/Rag until 3xbb b4 all in!" - but AT suited at 7 times BB is more acceptable - but again - call usually = dominated - at a full table I might have gone all in - 7 handed I just raised - irrelevant either way but yah, I like hands like KJ suited much better then A9 and almost better then AT. equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 31.6437 % 31.44% 00.20% { 87s } Hand 2: 68.3563 % 68.15% 00.20% { TT+, AJs+, AQo+ } equity (%) win (%) tie (%) Hand 1: 26.2478 % 24.64% 01.61% { ATo } Hand 2: 73.7522 % 72.14% 01.61% { TT+, AJs+, AQo+ } I'm not sure I like the faqt that 99 calls here. Probably a 50/50 and player dependant if someone calls with 99 here. |

[/ QUOTE ] True pushing with ATs in early position you are likely to be dominated. However, you have an M of 3. You have the odds to push. If you are called and dominated, you are probably a 7-3 dog with 4-3 pot odds. If your stack was a little bigger, this would be an easy fold. |
