That's different. All of these things are part of the "mystery of the island". They are written into the story as a premise, upon which all events transpire. I'm entirely willing to suspend disbelief when I as the viewer is effectively intructed to do so.

For example, if you tell me Superman is super strong, and he lifts a truck and throws it into outer space, that's fine. But if you have some joe schmuck do something one-tenth as impressive, like lift a motorcycle and toss it a few feet, it bugs me.

In the case I cited, the people were acting very much unlike what I would expect they likely would, given what I know about their chracterisitics and their circumstances.
