A8o in the BB, attempt to pick up the pot

So I recently got pokertracker and was looking at hands where I lost a lot of chips. Interestingly enough I'm losing a ton of chips in the BB with medium aces. A lot of the time I lose a small pot (usually my blind) and the big pots have actually been 60/40 losses. Variance I guess. Here's one of the few that isn't.

This player is 50/2.63 over 38 hands.

I don't understand the raise in the BB. You've got position on him and don't really gain anything by trying to push a BIG stack out of the hand.

Yes I do, I define his hand a lot better. He could complete with any two but I doubt he calls the raise with any two.

You has a loose-passive player in the SB. He has a 50 VPIP so you know he is going to complete the SB. I just check pre-flop since he has such a big stack and take a stab at the pot after the flop or after the turn (assuming he checks). A loose-passive player will fold if he does not have anything. If you had the big stack, a min-raise or two unit raise pre-flop would be fine because you have a great chance to take the pot down even if you wiff on the flop.

it's tempting to just check, but i like the raise. i already wrote this paragraph in support of checking, so i'll just leave it in. he has a low PFR so he might be completing A9-AJ here. he has high VPIP so he is likely going to call. so you're on your way to playing a big pot against the one guy you don't want to play a big pot against, and you're not even sure if you're going to be good if you hit an A.

however, i think the odds are just too good that you pick up the pot pre-flop with a raise. so i like the raise.

i would usually bet the flop. almost every hand he could have has 3+ outs, and some have more. then my plan would be to check behind on the turn and make a decision (probably to fold) if he bets the river.

as you played the flop, i like it the rest.

just checking preflop with the A8o is fine in the first example. Raising is okay too but puts you in a really uncomfortable spot against a huge stack, especially with all the shortstacks out there. If you had like 1000-1100 chips you could of course move allin, or if your opponent was a shortstack.
