To the non-believers...
If this world, along with us, wasn't created, then how did we come to be? Explain in detail (no one word replies).

Re: To the non-believers...
I think this probably belongs in the Sklansky (Science Math Philosophy aka "Religion and Spirituality") forum.

If this world, along with us, wasn't created, then how did we come to be? Explain in detail (no one word replies). [/ QUOTE ] One possibility is: The universe started with a big bang, and created a lot of stars, planets, chemicals etc. Now these chemicals reacted, as chemicals do, until by chance some chemicals accidentally fell into a configuration that created copies of themselves. Once this started, more and more of the copies appeared, but by radiation/chance etc, some developed flaws. Most of these flaws meant they werent so good at copying themselves, and these quickly got outnumbered by the better copiers. However, some of the flaws lead to better copying, or to changes that facilitated the speed or robustness/survival of the copies. Those that were good at this survived, and spawned further copies. and so on. Eventually, these chemicals developed more and more sophisticated means to reproduce, and life became more sophisticated at using and exploiting its environment, and the organisms that gained such sophistication and complexity thrived. and so on |

Things decompose when left alone. Nothing gets more complex on its own. I sumit that it takes a much greater leap of faith to believe stuff just happened than to believe somebody started the ball rolling.

[/ QUOTE ] Not necessarily; carbon, for example, is going to bond with just about anything if you let it because of its electron structure. Anyway, I'm on the fence about a supreme being. I just don't think it's possible to be sure either way. What I do know is this: this thread is much better off in Philospohy than Psychology. |

Re: To the non-believers...
But what caused the Big Bang?
If matter and energy cannot be created or destoyed, merely transformed from one type to another, where did it all come from? Is it possible that the Universe just "is" and what we understand as "time" really has no point but is simply a construct created by our minds. In other words, we're not smart enough to understand the true nature of the Universe. |
