Default I clearly played this flopped set poorly...

What should have been my strategy here? I was mostly worried about pushing the big stacks away from calling with flush draws after the flop. I took the easy way out (or what I felt was the easy way out), but would like to know how better players would have played this.

After the preflop action, I was sure that UTG+1 had aces. No real reads as I 8 table.

first to act with that number of people still to act?

if he's going bet, then he'll probably raise. we want to juice up that pot.

see, I was thinking the check-raise might be the right move here as well. I just didn't want to give AKs a chance to draw cheaply as I was feeling confident that I'd be seeing this one down to the river regardless of what came.

If we bet big and he raises, it's gonna be all in. We want him to bet something like 1/3rd or 1/2 pot and sucker a few bets in before we push. We don't want to get people out.

I think check/raising allows people to get away from high pairs far more often than it gets them stacked. I bet 10-12 on the flop and hope for a raise to 3-bet. If smooth called I push any turn.

"I would like to know how better players would have played this"
Reluctantly I reply, as I don't meet the requirements of the above phrase. None the less, I do have an opinion, however uninformed. lol
OUts against are: any spade = 9,
any 10, or J or Q = 9 more (we already counted them in spades),
any 5, 6 or 7 = 9 more
any 9 = 2 more
our sub total here is subtotl= 29
Unknown outs against include the third and fourth of any over pairs. ie 10,10 = 2 more 10's out against you.
29+ outs out of 47 cards is a fine incentive to take the pot now.
However, I have many times lost similar pots to the pocket 9,9. Or in this case the pocket AA on the turn. Therefore, bet the pot, not your entire stack. At these buy ins a $12 bet is very big, and as your bet illustrates, you can't always bet people out of the pot regardless of the size of your bet.
Can't wait for the results.

Default RESULTS

Hero has 8h 8c (three of a kind, eights).
UTG+1 has Kc Kd (one pair, kings).
UTG+2 has 9c 9d (three of a kind, nines).
CO has 4d 4s (three of a kind, fours).
Outcome: UTG+2 wins $105.75. Hero wins $15.84.

MP+2 would later claim that he had AA. Even if he didn't actually have it, that is one hell of an action flop, huh?

Lead the flop. Two spades and a flush draw. Do risk a free card. No need to get fancy.
